Railway enthusiasts to visit

Groups of railway enthusiasts will make stopovers in Ohakune on two week-ends next month. The groups will be travelling between Auckland and Wellington and vice versa to mark the 100th anniversary of the start of the extension of the Main Trunk Line south from the Waikato into the King Country.

Two old locomotives will carry the railway enthusiasts — a 4-8-4 oil-burner, owned by Steam Line of Paekakariki and a 4-8-2 coal-fired engine, owned by Glenbrook Vintage Railway of Auckland. The outings are being - organised by Steam Incorporated of Paekakariki. Enthusiasts travelling on the trains will pay $165 for

the weekend, not including meals or accommodation. The party travelling from Auckland to Wellington will stop over in Ohakune on the night of 13th April and the party travelling in the opposite direction will stop over on 20th April. The public will have an opportunity to inspect the vintage engines while they are in Ohakune overnight.
