Good year for Waimarino Club

Nineteen-eighty-four was a good year for the Waimarino Club in Seddon Street, with the balance sheet showing the club is in good heart. A gross profit of $14,865 from the bar trading account was transferred to the club's profit and loss

account at the end of the year. In the president's report, Mr N. G. McLean, said that the turnover at the bar showed that the members support during the year continued to improve. He added, "Unfortunately the committee has to watch the pricing structure carefully as can be seen with the

increases in prices. Inflation will see to an increase in subscriptions in the near future. "This year the committee has spent quite a lot of money on improvements. The major expense was the purchase of the new carpet, which was the last of the major improvements to the lounge area. "We owe a great deal to Mr and Mrs D. Griffiths for the donation. of firewood which helped pay for the carpet." Other improvements carried out at the club during the year, included renovations to the storeroom, new windows in the hall, new paint on the front of the building, refurbishment of the snooker table and purchase of new light meters. Plans for the future

include improvements to the bar and hall. Mr McLean added, "The committee 's support has made my job very easy. The house committee has had a busy year overseeing the renovations and planning for the future. "The social and sports committee has done a marvellous job this year — their sporting and social calendar has been very full and most successful. "Special mention must be made of the Trophy Exhibition. Public relations exercises of this nature can, only improve the club's image. "I would like to thank those members who gave their time helping the committee organise functions and cutting firewood. We cannot do without your help and I would hope to see a few different faces turn up in the future." The Waimarino Club's annual general meeting will be held on Friday (29th March) at 9pm at the Clubrooms.
