Goalkeeper selected
Ruapehu College 4th former, Johnny Rogers, 14, of Waiouru has been selected for the RotoruaMidlands Combined Representative soccer team which will play in an under 15 tournament to be held in Auckland the first week of May. At the end of the tournament, players will be selected for an Oceania Under 15 team. Teacher, David Archi-
bald, was understandably elated at Johnny's performance in making the representative team but was quick to add that there was a great deal of training ahead for him. Johnny, who plays at goalkeeper, has received a lot of help from Mr Archibald who plays in the same position for the Waimarino United team.
Pictured here having a break from training are Ruapehu College teacher, Alan Graham, and eight of his pupils, who are preparing for the Auckland round the bays run later this month. Pupils at the college have 'clubs' each Wednesday when they can do activities other than regular school work. Alan's club decided to get themselves in shape for a long distance run. Every Wednesday they set off from the college to build up their stamina for the big race on
Saturday 23rd March. Although they train only once a week as a group, Alan and his pupils plan to train individually every day. The runners are, L to R back: Nick Vincent, Alan Graham, Glen Pratley, Mathew Tohill, Larry Kinred and David Apimerika. Sitting: Raewyn Evans, Neil Frederickson and Brian Mason. If the team members enjoy the Auckland run, their next big event will be the Wanganui River run on Sunday 31st March.
