Police File

Several break-ins and attempted break-ins took place in Ohakune over the week-end, with thousands of dollars worth of goods stolen. Late on Saturday afternoon Kaipai Bookshop was broken into and computer games, watches, firecrackers and other goods were taken. Total value of the stolen goods and damage costs was $5,000. Maata Supplies' property was also broken into. Glue and spray cans were taken. Belts were stolen from the Presbyterian Church opportunity shop during a third break-in. An attempt to break into The Sheepskin Shop, and an attempt to steal a car from Miro Street late on Satur day night/Sunday morning were unsuccessful. Three people were later arrested by police for the offences, two appeared briefly in court in Wanganui this week and were remanded to Kawerau. One will appear at the next sitting of the Ohakune District Court.
