Busy month for power board
Several recent electricity "happenings" in the Ruapehu region are included in the latest report by the general manager of the K.C.E.P.B., reieased this week. A mechanical excavator was the cause of damage to a number of power cables at Karioi, at the end of December. The cable, which was damaged at the Winstone Samsung pulp mill, took over two weeks to repair. The accident happened despite the power board 's request to the company to be careful during their construction work and not to excavate near the cable. Low voltage cable has been laid along 250 metres on Thames Street to enable the overhead.conductors to be removed. In addition three streetlight standards have been erected. This work was done at the
request of, the Ohakune Borough Council. Also at the Junction, a pole and transformer had been erected to supply a new ski lodge owned by the Tongariro Ski Club. The Taumarunui line gang has spent some time in Ohakune building a new section of the Burn Street feeder. This work is still continuing.
The transformer supplying the industrial area of Ohakune has been changed from 30 to 50 KVA and also the transformer supplying Peter Hammond's carrot washing shed has been increased in size. In National Park a further five sections in the Kirk Street subdivision have been reticulated during the past month.
