Racing with BULLY

Last Saturday saw the running of the Matamata Breeders Stakes and it was won most convincingly by Ma Chiquita, a filly trained by Dave and Paul O'Sullivan at Matamata. The Last Tango — Tarantelle filly is now unbeaten in her only three starts, but this last race of course was her most important win. Do not be surprised if the connections do go to Australia to try and pick up some of the lucrative prizes that are available to very smart two-year-olds. The O'Sullivans are no strangers to lightning raids on Sydney and they have done exceptionally well in the past and if this trip does eventuate I can see more big money coming back with them. The other two very good

fillies who were beaten in this race after having been the public elect, Asta and Travel Light, will have to be given another chance and I really think that Asta will be the better horse. Secret Ace and Colonial King, two of the boom horses prior to Christmas freshened up very nicely and were turned out in excellent order and both won well. A lot more will be heard of these fellows. Local interest this weekend will probably centre on Wellington where the first day of their autumn meeting will be held. I do like Encore from the Eric Rophia stable and after a couple of good sound races I feel that Trentham could see her salute the judge. Others that could show up at this meeting would include Windermere, Lone Trail and the locally trained

Tippler. Sovereigns Ace could surprise if he gets an easy track. Up north Avondale races again and some very good fields have been nominated for this meeting. Avondale is a very progressive club and looks after all parties be they owners, trainers or just the general public who pushes his or her dollar across the counter. Eridik and Bah Trade are two from Harvey Wadham's stable at Pukekohe expected to make good showings, so watch for them. Lovenvain could also make amends and return to the winners circle. From Cambridge we expect to see Black Visa race at Avondale, a course he likes very much having already won several races here. Remember, Bully tips them first and you will read it in the Bulletin.
