Television Preview

I am very disappointed at the so called 'new season' on television, it seems to me that the Americans have changed the characters and names of their shows, but have kept the same old story lines. Tonight (Tuesday) on Two at 7.30pm is Highway to Heaven, which, as viewers will remember, I. was confident would be a watchable show. WRONG! The pilot was boring and tedious and I couldn't stop thinking about Little House on the Prairie. A clash at 8.30pm when on One the movie is Breakthrough starring Richard Burton as a German Sergeant chosen to inform the Americans of a plot to kill Adolf Hitler. On Two, Aristocrats, features England's richest man, The Duke of Westminster, who owns a big chunk of the most valuable property in London. The Sullivans continues on Two at 6.30pm with Tom finally taking Patti away from her evil parents to whisk her away to happiness in Australia.

Thursday on One at 8.30pm, a very moving documentary about the Belgian town of Ypres, scene of many telling battles in World War I. I visited the area some five yeajs ago and found it was still a depressing place seventy years later, it had an eerie feeling about it. Gone for a Soldier Should be watched by young and old alike to avoid the same meaningless destruction ever occuring again. Wipe away the tears and have a laugh immediately afterwards at Spitting Image which continues to impress as an excellent satirieal show. On One at 8.35pm, The South Bank Show features the man who found the Sex Pistols and made them into stars virtually overnight. He was named British Young Businessman of the Year in 1977 when he negotiated a record contract with E.M.I. for his 'boys'. only to see that companj break the contract some weeks later. Then A & M records stepped in and signed the group to their label only to break that contract some days later. The Sex Pistols were apparently £75,000 richer due to the sterling efforts of their manager, Malcolm McLaren. He finally saw the group signed to the new Virgin Records label where they made that company one of the most influential Punk Record Labels in the U.K. On Two at 10pm, Ryan O'Neal stars in the late night movie, Driver which looks as if it could be worth watching. Happy viewing.
