Snow success
There were no complaints about the weather at last Saturday's 74th annual Waimarino A & P Show. The sun shone all day, making the event, which was held at the Raetihi Showgrounds, the ideal place for a family outing. Most exhibit sections were well-supported, but horses were probably the most popular animals at the Show this year — most equine classes had good entries and several judges commented on the quality of animals and riders. Despite the lovely day the attendance figure of 600 was
well down on last year's figure of 750. There were also fewer trade exhibitors. Other events in the region on the same day were blamed for the drop byShow secretary, Mrs Locheen Punch, along with "a growing apathy" in the community towards country shows. Despite the smaller crowd, the Show was classed a success by the organisers and by the members of the public who did pay a visit. Most sheep classes and the new premier beef cattle class — open to two-year-old pure-bred stud cattle — were well-supported.
