Entries are still coming in thick and fast for the Waimarino A and P Show which is to be held at the Raetihi showgrounds next Saturday. There is once again a full programme of events scheduled which should bring in the crowds for what is a major event in the rural calendar. Gates open at 8.30am and the show continues until 5pm. Amongst the many events are show jumping, livestock classes, classes for pet lambs, vegetables, floral art and handicrafts. . Horses and their riders will be travelling from Levin, Palmerston North, Taumarunui and Taihape as well as Raetihi and Ohakune, for the show. A new class this year in the cattle section will be the
premier beef class, which will be open to two-year-old pure-bred stud cattle. The cattle can be of any breed, but must be registered with a recognised breed society. The tug-of-war, which was held for the first time last year, is expected to be one of the more popular events at the show, along with the side-shows, which always attract large crowds of children and adults. Show secretary is Mrs Locheen Punch, who took over the job last year. Says Locheen, "I am very enthusiastic for the job. I spent much of my life showing in the ring and I love being involved." The only thing the show now needs to be a big success is fine weather. "I'm praying for sunshine, "said Locheen.
