Rubbish bags

Raetihi Borough Council agreed this week to continue its new policy of asking residents to come into the council offices and sign for their rubbish bags. However, the matter will be reviewed at the end of the year. Town Clerk, Mrs Hope Vaughan, said that 'three of four dozen' people had come into the office to ask for rubbish bags claiming they had not received them, when the bags were delivered to residents homes under the old system. With the bags costing $10.40 a dozen it was costing the council a lot of money, she said. Mrs Vaughan added that old age pensioners could still have their bags delivered to their homes — providing they signed for them first.
