Artist returns to Ohakune

A weekend school of painting with Mrs Patricia Fry, artist member of the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts is being arranged for the 9th and 10th of February. The course will be held in the Art room of the Ruapehu College, and will cover the subjects of the preparation and layout of work, landscape painting, portraiture and figure drawing.

Patricia Fry is no stranger to Ohakune. She attended primary school in Ohakune where her mother, Mrs Ita Cody was a teacher, and who taught Patricia in standard one. Her father, Mr Fred Cody was decorated in World War One, and subsequently operated as an auctioneer and itinerant salesman in the Waimarino County. Mrs Fry's grandmother,

Mrs Eliza Cody kept a boarding house known locally as "Mr Joe Cody's Boarding House". An uncle, W.T.G. (Riley) Cody was the postman in Ohakune after being invalided home from France, and Mrs Fry will be bringing with her prints of his photographs which are currently held in the Turnbull library and the Manawatu Art Gallery. Many of the photographs record Ohakune and the residents of the day.
