New Apostolic Minister
The Ohakune Apostfolic Church has recently appointed its flrst pastor — Kevin Martin from Wanganui. Kevin was a full-time minister for 18 months in Wanganui. Before that he spent five months at Tenikau Bible College in Paraparamu. Kevin previously worked for the post office for lx/i years and is presently working for Winstone Afforestation in addition to carrying out his pastoral work. His family came to New Zealand when Kevin was five. He was brought up in the Catholic religion and educated at a Catholic school. But since he left school, Kevin says he has rarely attended a Catholic church and five years ago became involved in the Apostolic Church. The church has been established in New Zealand for 51 years. They use traditional church doctrines and baptise in full immersion. The Ohakune Church meets every Sunday at the
Senior Studies block of Ruapehu College and every Thursday for a 'home group evening'. While Kevin was living in Wanganui, he came to Ohakune every week for the homegroup evenings, and every second week for the Sunday services. Last week the church began a sunday school
where basic Christian principles will be taught. Kevin was formerly a top golf player. In 1976 he was the New Zealand Junior Champion and the North Island Champion. He began playing competitively from the age of 1 1 and from the age of 1 6 wa^in the New Zealand Junior Team.
