Earthquake or carrot?
Shortly before midday last Saturday week several members of the Ohakune Club felt a short, sharp jolt which they assumed to be a tremor associated with an earthquake. In trying to decide later what might have caused the 'shake' — a phenomenon which was apparently felt only in the Ohakune Club! — one club member assured others that it was no more than "a deep-seated subterranean vibration caused by a local market gardener extracting a giant newseason carrot from the ground." Nearby market gardener Koi Young was thought to be responsible!
