Television Preview
A belated Happy New Year to all readers, it certainly will be a good one for us television sports fans as later this year, TVNZ will, through the miracles of modern technology, bring us more great sporting events from around the world. Many such as the Wimbledon tennis finals will be live, but others, such as U.K. test cricket matches will be delayed coverage of about 24 hours. Today, Tuesday, you have two chances to see Bo Derek's husband John, as he was over 30 years ago. On One at midday, Saturday's Hero sees him playing a young man who is at college
on a football scholarship whilst at 3.55pm on Two, he is accused of murdering a policeman in a 1949 movie, Knock on any Door. I think he's better off with Miss 10 herself! At 8.25pm on Two, catch Paris Two and Three of Valley of the Dolls, but be prepared to sit in your chair for three hours! The ageless Cliff Richard can be seen Wednesday on One in the lunchtime movie, Summer Holiday, worth watching for the song of the same name which reached Number One in the U.K. and stayed there for three weeks, one of ten songs by Richard that did the same. One of the few pro-
grammes which is not a repeat, is Partners in Crime on One at 8.35pm. This ten part series has thus far been one of the main highlights of my holiday viewing. Francesca Annis and James Warwick are perfect for the lead roles as Tommy and Tuppence, heroes of several Agatha Christie novels. Fawlty Towers, whilst being one of those dreaded seen before programmes, improves with the second (third for some) viewing and can be seen immediately after Partners in Crime. I think I'll give Thursday's television a miss, none of the programmes appeal to me
although Part Three of The Nation's Health should be keenly watched by those who were fortunate enough to see the first two of this four part serial. The weekend's highlight for me is the second cricket test between N.Z. and Pakistan starting with the first ball being bowled on Friday at 1 1 .00am Television One. The Rockford Files at 10.55pm Friday, Television Two, is worth sitting up for. I read recently that Private Detectives in the United States say that this is the most accurate portrayal of one of their numbers ever made. Well happy viewing everybody. Bifocals.
