Cross-Country Competitor
Mary Whale (13) of Ohakune is Ruapehu College's Junior Girl Cross Country Champion this year having beaten all competitors (both boys and girls) in the Intermediate Grade and even Senior Grade girls. Her performance was only bettered by boys in the Senior Grade and two boys — Anthony Farmer and Glenn Pratley in her own Junior Grade. Mary, who has been running since she was little, competed in the New Zealand Secondary School's Road Race which was held in Auckland earlier this month. She also competed in the Annual Tuakau Road Race in June of this year. In addition to receiving a BNZ 5-Star Award for sport at this year's College Prizegiving, Mary also received merit awards andsubject awards in Art, Physical Education, Mathematics, Clothing and Typing during the year.
