Ohakune writer receives award
Ohakune school principal and Mayor, Bill Taylor, was last week awarded the State Literary Fund — Choysa Bursary for Children's writers. The award, worth $8000, was presented to him by the Minister for the Arts, Mr Peter Tapsell, at a function held in Turnbull House (formerly the Turnbull Library), Wellington, last Thursday. "It is an award of some substance and prestige which will enable me to work full-time on two book projects I've already started aimed at 11-14 year old
readers," said Mr Taylor. "There are no special conditions attached to the award except that any work published as a result of the award is expected to be acknowledged." 'Tm also grateful to the Wanganui Education Board who have very generously granted me leave-of-absence from teaching until September next year so that I can complete these two projects." "IU be staying in Ohakune during this time as I can write as well here as anywhere else," he said.
