Racing with BULLY

The Avondale Cup was won by Cariere in a nailbiting finish with Reingard, the South Island representative, who ran a most creditable race and impressed race watchers no end, in second place.

This fellow could be one to reckon with in a race such as the Auckland Cup. I don't think the extra distance will worry him. Cariere was also out to prove his trainer, Mr Jim Morris, correct in his claim that this horse would make a fine stayer, and this very astute gentleman was spot on. He stated after the race that Cariere would most likely contest the Clifford Plate at Ellerslie and then the Trentham Stakes at the Wellington Cup meeting. This horse is a good one. So Dandy is back to his best form again and it was a classy field he beat in the Concorde Handicap. Look to So Dandy to give some big performances over the

Christmas and New Year racing. I have become as confused as most other punters with my likes and dislikes for the Auckland Cup but as this is the last issue before the holidays I have had to make a decision and from this distance I will go for Greatness with Reingard to complete the quinella. For the Railway it has to be So Dandy. This Saturday sees racing at Te Awamutu where the Waipa Club will be staging their pre-Christmas meet and a friendly little club it is too. A couple of locals who could show up here would have to include Final Advance, Honorary Guest and Scotch Wall. From up

the road at Te Rapa, take an interest in Azawary and Tullia while the Matamata representative, Troubled Water could cause his opponents some worries if he lines up. Nearer to home we have the Manawatu Cup coming up for decision and this could be a hard one. I will go for Double Trouble, Kerry Lane and Shazaam for a very healthy trifecta. Retsina and Middleman could also go well at Awapuni. Merry Christmas and a most Prosperous New Year to all punters and readers of this column. See you in the New Year. Remember ... Bully tips them first, and you will read it in the Bulletin.
