Waiouru's 'Fair with a Flair'

Next year's Waiouru Desert Fair will be held on Saturday 9 March. This popular annual allday event is a 'fair with a flair' said 1985 Desert Fair organisor Major Ivan Carswell of Waiouru. Run as a fund-raising venture by the Army Training Group at Waiouru for a number of years, next year's proceeds will again be paid to local Lions clubs for redistribution to various community projects in the Waimarino.

The fair will feature entertainment and both mobile and static displays. The army will present a military display. A wide range of products, craftwork and services will be exhibited in the many army tents which are being provided by the ATG and there will be the usual fun and food stalls. The sites are available to both commercial and noncommercial exhibitors. Anyone wishing to reserve a site should contact either

their local Lions club or the Desert Fair Committee at the ATG in Waiouru. The Committee are also looking for additional entertainment-display activities for the centre arena and ask local performers, bands, clubs etc to contact them as soon as possible. Already Billy T. James and Buzz-O-Bumble have agreed to appear.
