Keyboard operator has typeset half million words
This issue of the Waimarino Bulletin is the last that will be typeset by Belinda Stevens. Belinda has worked at the Bulletin for 1 5 months since the end of the 1983 ski season. Until then she was employed by AHI Turoa in their Clyde Street Information office. "I've enjoyed working as part of the Bulletin team and feel that on the whole we've
all related to each other well. Learning how to use a computer typesetter will certainly be an asset in future but I feel that it's time for a change ..." "Having held clerical positions in all my previous jobs including banking and spending great periods of time sitting at a typewriter all day I guess it was a natural progression to take on this position as typesetter
operator. Initially it was a big challenge not only to become competent as an operator but also to be able to cope with the workload as there were constant deadlines to be met." During the time she has been at the Bulletin Belinda has set all the type for 58 editions of the paper totalling 1031 pages and including more than half-a-million words of editorial copy alone without taking into account all the typesetting for both the display and classified advertising. She is taking an extended holiday up north in January with her family — Belinda is originally from Wellsford — then returning to her home in Ohakune. Taking her place as typesetter-operator next year will be Kim White from Hamilton who has worked part-time at the Bulletin during the winter months.
