Young skiers for Squaw Valley

Pictured with John Ball (Turoa Ski School Director) are Shirene Mosaed and Jacyn Bramley, two of the eight junior skiers who have been seiected for the Ski Development Team camp. The team will travei to Squaw Valley, California on 2 January 1985 for seven weeks intensive racing. They will receive coaching from John Ball, who has had 15 years fulltime experience in ski coaching. His wife Alison will be chaperoning the skiers. The children were chosen by the newly formed New Zealand Ski Association

North Island Racing Council, which governs four ski areas — Turoa, Whakapapa, Tukino and Mt Egmont. The Council's objective is to develop promising North Island ski racers to a national standard. "Competition in Squaw Valley will be very tough," says John, "because there are so many very good young skiers there." "The Squaw Valley races work on a points system, which is an advantage for Jacyn as he already has points which he can keep from competing at Turoa."
