Plans are underway to organise co-ordination of relief operations, should there be a disaster in the Waimarino area. These plans are being undertaken by the newly appointed Civil Defence officer, Mr Don Robinson of Maungaturoa. Mr Robinson is a production supervisor at the Winstone-Samsung Pulp Mill at Karioi. He will be conducting tests and exercises to give disaster co-ordination staff and the general public, practice in coping with an emergfency. He is hoping to get as much public support as possible in these exercises, but believes people are generally apathetic about the idea of involvement in Civil Defence. "They just don't believe the mountain will erupt." Other aspects of Mr Robinson's job will include developing emergency medical plans in association with doctors, hospitals and other medical staff. He will assist police, fire, local government and other departments with disaster training. Industrial emergency plans will be developed and support organised for people needing disaster care.
Mr Robinson will soon be meeting with local government departments and volUnteer organisations to work out a "plan of action."
