Kindergarten in College cave

By

Mary Anne

Gill

T wenty one children from the Ohakune Kindergarten were invited to Ruapehu College on Tuesday 27 November by Art Teacher, Merrilyn George to participate in an art class in the newly decorated Art Room. The room had been transformed into a cave reminiscent of the way in which the Ohakune Primary School hall was decorated for the night of the Carrot Growers' Ball on 29 September 1984. The wall was covered with 'creepy crawlies' as the children were quick to note and upon entering, a large spider descended on the children. This then was their introduction to a veritable wonderland. They were shown the printing press as well as the many painting utensils which most children used enthusiastically. At the end of their visit, they were asked to wash in the tub. It was surprising to see how far paint can be distributed on one small body! The day was pronounced a success by both children and parents.
