Racing with BULLY

We must start off again this week heaping praise on the riding skills of Miss Marie Lyndon who, straight on top of her five winners at Woodville, rode another four at Wanganui on the 24 November, her ride on Weren in the first leg being as good an exhibition as you would see anywliere. This quiet, unassuming young lady rides with a perfectly balanced style and her mounts seem to appreciate the fact that she sits as quiet as a mouse. Linda Jones and Debbie

Healey have similar styles and I feel it proves that the women have something over the men when it comes to a close finish. By the time you read this the Bayer Classic will have been run and the winner lauded up and down the country, and what a classy field Levin has been able to assemble. Even some of the consolation races have pretty high class fields accepted. Another highlight last week of course was the Japan Cup and Kiwi I thought ran a grand race especially seeing he was certainly a race short. To finish sixth — and incidentally pick up.a stake of $33,000 — was a fine effort. This weekend there is racing at Te Aroha and Wellington, and both should have good programmes especially the Thames Valley Stakes which always seems to have a classy line up. From Matamata I hear that Seaweed and Troubled Water are close to having

that winning polish on so stick with these ones. If Pauls Gold starts in the Thames Valley Stakes I think he will win, we all know how this fellow can gallop. Shifnal Prince is apparently back to his best too and there will be more pickings for this pride of Cambridge. Wellington could see another win chalked up by Chance for Gold while Retsina is not done with yet either. Nampa, Nalu and Flying Tui are a trio from Awapuni whom, if accepted, could return their supporters a nice dividend also. A looft at those likely to be facing the starter in the Avondale cup on 12 December and my order of preference would be La Souveronne, Dun Allen and Lucozade. Probably not a big trifecta with those three but remember it only cost $6 to box them. Bully tips them first ... in the Bulletin.
