Surveying the damage
At about 2am on Saturday 24 November, a beer bottle was thrown at the window of Newson's Pharmacy in Raetihi. The plate glass window, which has a replacement value of $2,000, shattered immediately. Having gained entry thrbugh the broken window the thieves took cameras, a
pair of running shoes, money from the cash register and some drugs to the total value of approximately $2,000. Police were unable to contact owner, D'Arcy Newson, who was spending the weekend at his holiday home at Lake Taupo. Shop assistant, Dot McNie, was in Raetihi however and was
able to assist police initially to identify the missing property. She then managed to contact Mr Newson who returned immediately. Upon his return, he found that police had already boarded up the window but that there was still a great deal of tidying up to do. Police are following up some promising leads.
