TELEVISION PREVIEW

Under the veil of anonymity, I admit to being a soap opera fan. Yes I'm addicted to The Young and Restless particularly now that Vanessa Prentice is gaining her revenge, in death, on Laurie Brooks. David Banning is a lost soul in Days of Our Lives and what is to happen to Marlena? Sources tell me she hires a private investigator called Roman, (he used to be the chauffeur in Dynasty) falls in love and ... (well that would be telling). Now that Bea has left Prisoner "top dog" for the moment is Aunty Min. Will the "Freak" survive? (I hope not). Enjoy Lizzie's 'great' acting while you can as sources tell me, her days are virtually numbered. Back to reality, tonight (Tuesday) at 8.30pm on Two, the Tuesday documentary The Secret Agent includes investigation into Agent Orange, the lethal herbicide used in Vietnam. A new serial at 9.30pm on One called Duty Free stars

Keith Barron and Joanna Van Gyseghem. Replacing MASH every weekday night at 6pm is Alice. I don't watch the Young Doctors as you must draw the line somewhere with these soap operas. On Wednesday on One at 5 ,30pm, children (and adults) are glued to Terrahawks the creation of Gerry Anderson. Nowhere near as good as his earlier programme The Thunderbirds which are more my era. At 7.30pm Wednesday on One the return of Julie in One Day at a Time is to screen. In real life she had an extremely bad drug problem and has now beaten the habit. It will be interesting to see how well she has recovered. It will also be good seeing Patrick MacNee who was Steed in The Avengers on Magnum P.I. Thursday 8.30pm on Two. At 10pm on One the return of Lou Grant, who in many ways resembles our Editor, will screen.

IU be watching the repeat screening of Auf Wiedersehen Pet Friday 9.35pm on One as I missed it first time around and everyone raved about it so much that I must have missed something good. I never miss Coronation Street of course. I must admit though that it is sad to watch it currently as we're nearing the time when Peter Dudley (Bert) dies in real life. Watching him on the screen become a shadow of himself has been distressing. Notice Len Fairclough has been missing? He was suspended whilst he appeared in court. He also wrote some particularly nasty things about the programme in one of Britain's morning dailies. For that he got the sack so my guess is that we will not see him again. Great movie on Two at 10pm Friday starring JaneFonda and James Caan called Comes a Horseman. One of those under rated movies that come out from time to time. Happy viewing.
