Local skier wins 20-year pass

Turoa Skifields closed for the season on Sunday 11 November ... the last field to close in New Zealand, and two weeks later than the last South Islaud field to close. "Turoa has offered consistently good skiing conditions since opening in July,"says Mr Tony Wright, general manager for Turoa Skifields. "Although we were a week behind at the start we've finished up 25% ahead of last year on skier days, and for the second time in

Turoa's history broken 100,000 skier days for the season. It hasn't been an exceptional snow year for Turoa, if anything a little below average — but they certainly made good use of the snow that they did get. The extensive snowfencing, and many hours of work put in with the snowgroomers really paid off. The nett result were some of the best skiing conditions in New Zealand this season. One of the more frequent

visitors to Turoa was Mr George Drayton of Mangateitei Road, Rangataua. The 1 984 ski season will certainly be a very memorable one for him. George was the lucky winner of a 20-year pass competition which Turoa ran in October for which any skier who had skied Turoa for three days in October > was eligible. A keen skier he will undoubtedly get mileage from the windfall and put it to good use over the next 20 seasons.
