Allan Nation of Ohakune holds a wasp nest he removed recently from the roof space above Ohakune's Police Station. These grey coloured nests are composed of chewed wood fibres mixed with saliva. Fortunately this one — one of the largest Allan has seen — was empty. Last year he and his brother Steven destroyed about 40 nests in a small section of the Mangateitei Stream bank behind Skiers Inn.
