LIONS DONATE COMPUTER

Three members of the Ruapehu Lions club — treasurer lan Strachan, past president Wally Parkes and v'ce-president Brian Dowsett, travelled to Feilding recently to present a Commodore 64 computer to St Dominic's School for the Deaf. The Lions Club were able to purchase the computer — assisted by an Education Department subsidy — with $2000 raised when they held a charity Golf Match and

Dinner at the Waimarino Golf Club earlier in the year. Both functions received great support from the local community. On behalf of St Dominic's School for the Deaf Sister Gemma thanked the Ruapehu Lions Club for their tremendous effort adding that computers played an important role in the lives of the present generation. It was therefore important for St Dominic's to move with the times.

The computer, which has an educational library available, was purchased from Einstein Scientific Ltd who have donated, free of charge, 250 programmes suitable for deaf children as well as providing demonstrations on how to use the machine. The Ruapehu Lions Club have had a long-term involvement with St Dominic's School for the Deaf and each year holds a fund-raising event to assist pupils at the school.
