Airborne oil-drum strikes welcoming sign
The very handsome carved totara sign 'Ohakune — where adventures begin' at the Giant Carrot site lay smashed and lying on the ground last Friday morning. But it was not an act of vandalism as first thought. A trailer being towed by a 4WD vehicle had come adrift from its coupling, careered across the road and bounced off the rock garden. An oil drum on the trailer was thrown through the air to strike the rear of the sign. The impact broke both supporting posts.
