Karate chief visits Ohakune

Jack Gibbons, New Zea- . land Branch Chief of the Koykushinkai society, a style of karate said to be the hardest of all, visited Ohakune over the weekend of 27/28 October to grade seven local exponents of the art. Their instructor, Barrie Boyle, who works as Equipment and Service Engineer on T uroa Skifields, took Mr Gibbons with his wife Pat, up Mount Ruapehu on Saturday to inspect the facilities. The couple were highly impressed with the skifield and the marvellous view across the Waimarino. Later that night, Mr Gibbons attended the grading session at the St Joseph's School Hall in Shannon Street.

. The pupils received the following grades: Ron Rutherford 4th Kyu(Green), Jannette Cowie 5th Kyu (Yellow), Caroline Crawford 6th Kyu (Yellow), Bruce Edwards 6th Kyu (Yellow), Fern Jobbit 7th Kyu (Blue), Jacki McCullough 7th Kyu (Blue), Andy McLaren 7th Kyu (Blue).
