DRIVER KILLED

A collision on State Highway One 5 kms south of Waiouru between a Chrysler Valiant car and an articulated Internationaltruck, carrying containers claimed the life of a 27-year-old Taihape man. The driver of the car, Steven James Allen, was killed instantly when his north-bound car ran under the south-bound truck at 0215 hours last Saturday morning. The driver of the truck, Ronnie Lee Paekau and his passenger Brian Roy Williams, both of Hamilton received cuts and abrasions when the truck overturned following the collision and blocked the road. Constables Roger Trembath of Waiouru and Wayne Guthrie of Taihape attended the accident together with Army ambulances, fire appliances and recovery vehicles from Waiouru. It was not until about 0430 that one lane was cleared to allow the assortment of cars, buses and trucks that had built up on either side of the accident site through.
