Hunting trophies weigh-in
Pigs, possums, rabbits, goats and eels were once again part of Labour Day celebrations in Raetihi. The Waimarino Pig Hunting Club attracted 28 entries fromall over the North Island for its annual hunt and weighing-in competition. Held amidst hail and in freezing femperatures, the competition was won by Baldy Haitana with an 87kg boar. Other categories included heaviest sow, best tusks and, for children and teenagers, heaviest goat, possum, rabbit and eel. Results are as follows: Boar: 1st B. Haitana 87kg, 2nd T. Treanor Jnr 65kg, 3rd T. Spry 51kg. Sow: 1st B. Short 52.5kg, 2nd Fertnin 44.5kg, 3rd T. Treanor Jnr 38.5kg. Tusks: B. Haitana and T. Henry, ■ Possum: B. Cole 3.5kg. Rabbit: S. Hawira, S. Tweedale, P. Todd 2kg. Hare: D. Fenton, S. Hawira 4kg. Eel: R. Haitana 4kg. Goat: M. Boesch 30.5kg. Combined weight: S. Hawira.
