MISS NEW ZEALAND 1985

For the first time ever entrants from the Ruapehu region — including the Waimarino — will be eligible to compete in the Miss New Zealand contests. This is due to the creation of a new regional area — Taupo/ Tongariro — which has been sponsored by the Altrusa Club of Taupo and recognised by the organisers of the Miss New Zealand Contest 1985. The winner of the Miss Taupo/ Tongariro title will be one of the finalists from whom Miss New Zealand will be selected in Dunedin next February. Under the rules of the competition entrants must have attained the age of 17 on or before 1 November 1985, and not to haye attained the age of 25 by 1 November 1985, and never to have been married or to have had a child. The winner of the Miss Taupo/ Tongariro title will receive a first prize of $500 cash, plus a specially-made piece of jewellery and other prizes to the value of $500. Two photographs plus an entry fee of $ 100 must reach the Altrusa Club of Taupo by 19 November for the regional contest which will be held in the Starlight Theatre in Taupo on Monday 26 November. Entrants will receive modelling tuition over the weekend 24-25 November. Entry forms are available from the Ruapehu Region Information Centre in Clyde Street Ohakune.
