Locally made stone-crusher at work

Stone-crushing operations have taken a new turn in Raetihi. Tony Taura and Chris Wise of Barrett & Taura Transport have just finished building a new secondary closed-circuit crushing plant. The plant, which took three months to complete, was designed from the blueprints of a similar operation in use in Rangitikei County. The chassis and motor came from an old crusher and the rest of the machine was built from scratch byMr Taura and Mr Wise. The plant takes off where the primary crusher finishes and reduces the size of the stones to an even three or four inches. It is hydraulically run and cost about $40,000 to manufacture. Mr Taura said they saved a lot by making it

themselves as the Rangitikei plant cost $150,000 to buy. Breakdowns should be

minimal because the hydraulic drive means no pulleys, belts and guards to contend

with, Mr Taura said. He expects it to double their production output.
