Some of the many pilots, crew members and local people who volunteered their services as observers were photographed as they gathered for a briefing session in the Wanganui Aero Work hangar at Ward's Raetihi airstrip. Throughout the weekend hot soup, sandwiches, tea and coffee kept ground crews and returning flight crews warm and refreshed despite the cold wet weather. The missing pilot's father, George Taylor of Auckland, said that he was amazed at the number of people who had turned up to help and he wanted to thank everyone in the community for their support.
