Leading NZ pianist to play in Taihape
World-renowned New Zealand pianist, Michael Houston, will be performing works by several major composers in Taihape next month. Michael Houston is due to begin an extensive concert tour later this month which will take in 22 towns and cities, but this visit to Taihape on Wednesday 7 November will provide local lovers of classical music with the best opportunity to hear this noted pianist. The Taihape programme will feature works by Mozart, Beethoven, Debussy and Schumann. Mr Houston, who was born in Timaru in 1952, began piano lessons at the age of five and went on to earn himself a place as a pianist of international repute on the world's most famous concert hall stages such as New York's Carnegie Hall, Washington's Kennedy Hall and the Sydney Opera House. Still only 32 years of age he has established himself with several high placings in international competition such as the Tchaikowsky International Competition of 1982 which was held in Moscow. The concert is due to start at 8 pm in the Taihape Conference Hall. Details are available from Mrs Margaret Benson, Secretary of the Taihape Music Group. Tickets will be available through the Ruapehu Information Centre in Clyde Street, Ohakune, from tomorrow, Wednesday.
