ANZ Bank donates carrot
The Ohakune carrot has its roots as the star of a television commercial about ANZ Bank's latest deposit service — Incentive Saver. The carrot was built in Wellington by two Australian model-makers, whose previous experience in legume modelling was building a three metre apple for a shampoo commercial.
"When the commercial was completed we were at a loss as to what to do with our 8.5 metre vegetable," said ANZ Bank's Marketing and Public Relations Manager, Peter Hazael. "We grew extremely fond of the carrot and didn't have the appetite to see it diced and destroyed. Then we remembered that Ohakune
was raising funds for a carrot to display in the town," said Mr Hazael. "A telephone call to the Town Clerk directed us to Peter Hammond who gladly accepted the carrot." "We're pleased the carrot has been put to good use in promoting Ohakune — after all, promotion is what it was made for," said Mr Hazael.
