From small beginnings...

The concept of constructing a large carrot for Ohakune started over two years ago and since that time many letters have been written about the carrot, there has been a lot of discussion and much debate. The opportunity to write this letter affords me much pleasure as the culmination of the last couple of months generated so much goodwill, has support and enthusiasm from our community. My thanks for this support can go to no one individual as wherever the Association has turned for assistance it has been forthcoming. It is the belief in what we have achieved in creating the

development of Rochfort Park, that has shown to me how people really feel about the introduction of the large carrot to Ohakune. Not only have we added a new tourist attraction to the area but we have also been able to develop one of our reserve areas into an amenity to be enjoyed by the community and tourists alike. I am proud of what we have been able to do on a collective basis, knowing that it has been achieved by using local resources, ability and enthusiasm. My thanks also go to the businesses from out of town who have shown their

support financially or with the supply of materials. The development around the carrot is a tribute to us all, a show of good faith in our community and an attraction which will be the rival of many towns around New Zealand. We have proven to ourselves that we have the capability to work together and pool our talents for the good of our community. I trust all of you involved will feel the pride our Association does each time you pass the Ohakune developed area.
