GIRL GUIDE WEEK 1984

As their national service project for the year, the Girl Guides Association is joining with the New Zealand Police in a ' special contact campaign for the benefit of Senior Citizens. The project will run from Friday 5 October to Monday 15 October 1984. The Guides are preparing a single-page directory of local organisations having relevance to the health, recreation, social contacts and trade and other services

for the elderly in the Waimarino area. The Police have prepared a leaflet called 'Security for Senior Citizens', which contains information about simple, sensible measures which should be taken to help in crime prevention. The Police and the Guides, are very interested in encouraging Senior Citizens to become fully involved with their community and their community with them. This is not, by

any means, just for crime prevention reasons. Some old people tend to' become withdrawn and Jonely, especially if they live alone. A healthy, involved older section of the community is important for the well-being of the whole community. Guides will be calling on as many Senior Citizens in the Waimarino area as they can manage, to deliver and discuss their directory and distribute the security leaflet.
