Ruapehu College News
On Thursday 20 September a group of 5th and 6th Form students from Ruapehu College visited the 2XR Radio Station to run it from 4 to 5pm. The students commented on the effect of the skiing and tourism industries upon the Ohakune township. As ari offshoot from the visit the students are looking at starting an internal Radio Station within the college with the help of 2XR manager Mr Dave Campbell. ★ ★ ★ On Wednesday 19 September a Third Form netball team from Ruapehu College travelled to Wanganui to visit the Sacred Heart College. Accompanied by Mrs M. George and Mrs Ryland the teaiii played boarder teams from Taihape and Hawera. The team's first game against Taihape was a lively one and ended with the Ruapehu team winning 22-16. They also won their second game against Hawera with a score of 14-9. One of the highlights for
the College was the impressive hospitality which was shown to them by the Sacred Heart students and teachers. ★ ★ ★ Ruapehu College hosted Takapuna Grammar for a couple of days last week. The visiting class, 4Md, was hosted by 4Gr, Mr Alan Graham's class. The visit is an annual event which has grown out of an association between staff from both schools. During their stay in the district Takapuna Grammar managed to visit the Karioi
pulp mill, the Waiouru military camp and museum and went up the mountain for a day's skiing. Staff who accompanied the class on the trip were Mr Steve Lewis, Mr Akroyd and Mrs Theresa Muulden who taught at Ruapehu College from 1965-1969. ★ ★ ★ Ruapehu College Art classes are to be involved in a community project this week to prepare for the cabaret to mark the unveiling of the carrot.
