COUNTY TO INVESTIGATE COMPUTER

Waimarino County Council are investigating the possibility of putting many of their accounting procedures such as rates, general ledger, plant and equipment onto computer. Taumarunui County Clerk, Mr Barry Bartling, was invited to address Waimarino County Councillors on computerised accounting systems for local authoritiesat last month's meeting. He gave details of the many advantages computerised accounting procedures have for keeping running totals and making up-to-date assessments of costs, revenue and expenditure. Mr Bartling offered the Council the use of the Taumarunui County Council if Waimarino decided to establish a terminal in their offices in Raetihi. He also offered to train an operator. He estimates that the cost in setting up such a facility. for the first time would be in the region of $5,000-$6,000. This would be made up of $2,400 for the terminal, about $ 1 ,800 for the printer, and another $1,000 for the~ setting up of the new filing system. Waimarino County Council agreed to investigate further the use of a computer whether it was the one at Taumarunui or any other computer facility or operator in the area.
