Grenade accident fails to deter territorial

An Army Court of Enquiry has completed its investigation into an explosion of a dud grenade which occurred at the Waiouru military camp recently. The results have been forwarded to the Ministry of Defence in Wellington who are not required to release the findings to either the public or press. Kenneth Shore, 29, of Porirua, lost two toes in the accident which happened during a 'buddy weekend' for people interested in joining the Territorial Forces. It is understood that Mr Shore stepped on a dud

grenade causing it to explode. He lost a quarter of two toes, had shrapnel in his legs and a cut above the right eye. His heavy steel-capped boots saved him from further injury and these are apparently not serious enough to prevent him from realising a dream, that of serving in the territorials. Mr Shore is still in Palmerston North Hospital with his wife Donna and children Damon, 5 and Terry, 8 staying nearby. He is apparently recovering well after surgery and will have a further operation this week.
