Army telephones out

Many telephone lines on the Army's Waiouru exchange were put out of order at about 11.30pm last Thursday night when water leaked into one of the main cables. Among the extensions affected were the Fire Station and Hospital. Telephone staff from Ohakune worked all day Friday and Saturday to repair the fault. In the meantime a radio link was set up between the exchange and the fire station and hospital to allow emergency services to operate.
