LATERAL THINKING SOLUTION FOR LIBRARY LOCATION
Raetihi librarian and councillor, Marguerite Webb, was congratulated at last mpnth's meeting of the Raetihi Borough Council by fellow councillor, Andrew Cornwall, on her iateralthinking'solution to a longstanding problem. Ever since the amalgamation of the two staffs from the Raetihi Borough Council and the Waimarino County Council into the one Joint Administration Centre under the same roof at the beginning of this year, the question of the best utilisation of space and facilities had beenconsidered. In a written submission to the council Cr Webb had proposed that, instead of transferring the Library into the present Boardroom, the Boardroom — which is 140 sq.ft. larger than the present library — be converted into offices for three members of staff with an extra desk for the Borough Health Inspector and Building Inspector. This would free an office next to the Library to allow the Library to extend into that extra space which would then be used for additional book space, a childrens' section and a workroom — all at minimal expense. The retention of the present library location would also avoid members of the Library having to use the main doors of the Administration Centre during and after business hours. At last month's meeting the Raetihi Borough Council recommended this proposal for adoption.
