ACCIDENT

Two people were taken to Waimarino Hospital on the evening of Monday 27 August, after their car rolled down a bank just past the intersection of Foyle Street and Miro Street, Ohakune. The accident occurred at 6.25 p.m. when a Datsun car driven by Matthew Lee of Auckland was heading south down Miro Street. Lee missed the corner then his wheel went over the side followed by the rest of the car. Traffic officer, Graeme Cole, said the car probably rolled three times before coming to rest on an access road. The car sustained extensive damage and at this stage, appears to be a complete write off. Front seat passenger, David Roberton (18) from Auckland received minor lacerations. He was treated and discharged from hospital the same night. Kate Darrow (17) a rear seat passenger, had a fractured femur, tibula and fibula as well as a fractured knee joint, all on her right leg. She was transferred to Wanganui Base Hospital where her condition was later described as satisfactory.
