ALL UNDER ONE ROOF
SPORTS COUNTRY HAS A LOT TO OFFER
Last April 83 this site in Clyde Street, Ohakune was an old workshop building and since then Murray Macneil and friends have created a pleasant professional ski and sports service centre
As soon as you enter the complex you are a part of the atmosphere whether it be in the shop, gymnasium, or ski hire.
The shop specialises in selling budget, new and secondhand ski and other types of sports gear. If you take along your ski
and sports equipment you no longer usfe, they will sell it for you. A lot of gear has been brought into the shop already and Murray is very
appreciative of the support in this type of trading. The ski hire is well stocked with all the equipment for families, first timers and friends. They also hire clothing, tramping boots, squash racquets and golf clubs. New this year to give an even better service to sports people, The Shape Place Public Gymnasium has opened and operates everyday and evenings. "In opening up this gym," ' says Murray, "I'm not trying to pretend it's a vast city affair. It's more of a country
place with a country atmosphere and all of the equipment necessary to work on all of the major muscle groups."
Murray says he is strongly in favour of physical conditioning for the sportsminded. "A high level of fitness allows the sports competitor to work at a high
performance level and he is less prone to injury," he says. "You only need to think of the number of your friends who are nursing injuries to see that a gym like this is a must." Everyone is welcome at the The Shape Place gym either as a casual user or on a membership basis. Expert instruction is available to all. Most ski related businesses operate for a limited season but at Sports Country their aim is to remain open all year, so they can give the fullest service possible.
