LIQUOR LICENCE APPLICATION

The Raukawa Falls Store in Kakatahi has applied to the Liquor Licensing Authority in Wellington to sell wines but will have to wait a while to see if there are any objections. The licence has been granted subject to the lodging of objections within 60 days of the advertised application which was about a month ago. Situated about halfway down the Parapara Road (SH4), Kakatahi is 23 miles (37km) from Raetihi and 30 miles (48km) from Upokongaro, the nearest alternative sources of supply of wine and other liquor. Mr Peter Simpson of the Raukawa Falls Store says that he is hopeful that the licence will be granted in about two months time. By selling wines and fortified wines to take away he will be providing a muchneeded service to the isolated rural community who live and work between Raetihi and Wanganui.
