Novelty loaf donated to hospital patients

An appetising example of crusty French baking was seen in the Waimarino when this loaf, in the form of an alligator holding a carrot in its jaws, was first used in a promotional extravaganza in Ohakune and then presented to the patients of the Waimarino Hospital in Raetihi. The loaf, which had been prepared by a French baker living in Palmerston North had featured as the centrepiece of a magnificent buffet lunch at the Ohakune Club, presented by local caterer, Mona Lishman, of Cafe Stua. After the lunch Ruapehu Radio asked listeners to phone in with suggestions as to how it should be disposed of. Mrs Bridget Hiroti of Raetihi suggested that the loaf should be donated to the hospital and this idea was adopted.
