Waimarino farewells popular Ohakune policeman

— More than 100 people attended the farewell for Marty and Lynne Sutherland at Pipers Kings Court last Wednesday evening. They were presented with a silver tea service from a grateful Waimarino community. In their farewell speeches Ohakune's Mayor, Bill Taylor, and Ohakune's traffic officer, Graeme Cole, expressed the community's appreciation of the work done by constable Marty Sutherland and his wife Lynne during their 3-year stay in the Waimarino — first in Raetihi and then in Ohakune. They both spoke very highly of Marty's professional dedication, sense of duty and tact and of his contribution to the wellbeing of the local community. "It is sad that Marty and Lynne are leaving us but our loss is Wellington's gain" ... Marty has been appointed Community Constable for Karori, a Wellington suburb. In reply Marty thanked the friendly and hospitable

Waimarino community for making their 3-year stay so pleasant and spoke appreciatively of the help and cooperation he had received from traffic officers, park rangers, Turoa staff, local

business people and his fellow constables. We all wish Marty and Lynne well and hope to see them again when they can spare the time to visit the Waimarino.
