Ohakune phones out

Telephone lines went dead in Ohakune last Thursday when a software error occurred in the exchange's computer programme. For an hour late Thursday afternoon the lines were out in the borough while Post Office senior technician Mike Burgess traced the fault. Mr Burgess used outside

toll lines to call Wanganui specialists for advice on the j problem, the first time it has happened. It took him some time to trace the fault the first time up, Mr Burgess said. But with the experience behind him he expects to have the lines working much sooner should a similar fault occur.
